November Poem-A-Day 13

In The Garden

The winged traffic crosses the yard
in long swoops and acrobatic loops.

Bright-feathered seed crackers
chase sparrows off frail seedy grasses.

Blackbirds check out every inanimate
possibility of food or nest material.

It’s a self-service supermarket out there.
She cheers the hunters, the gatherers

and the courageous hunted.
There is always the possibility of cat.
