November Poem-A-Day 19

Dental Revolution (a love poem)

“The best I’ve ever seen
in these past twenty years.”
He’s filled my mouth
with glue, and let me spit.
“Gums and teeth,” he adds.
“Brilliant!” I say.

He does that Mediterranean
downturn of the mouth
with a shrug, followed
by a sigh. “A pity
you had to lose ten
along the way.”

Oh but I love you, Sandro.
Until your declaration
I had a mouth half empty.
Now, today, I leave
With a mouth two-thirds full.
